Traffic Calming in the Parish by Dennis Wade, Parish Councillor

11th. October 2009

With the help of Sally, our local Police Community Support Officer, I have managed to speak to Kevin Patten of the Safer Roads Partnership (SRP), who is emigrating to Australia in 2 weeks time. However, he was very helpful and told me that they now have a new boss

The SRP has recently had a change in policy which means it is no longer tied by the need for there to be a history of serious accidents in an area before they are able to get involved. Under the guise of "Community Concern" they are able to carry out speed enforcement in areas where the Parish Council / Police / residents report problems with speeding - such a scheme is being trialled in Great Witley. As the SRP has already carried out a survey in Hanley Swan, they are aware of our problem.

Kevin Patten's suggestion was that the Parish Council should write to the new SRP boss regarding our concerns.I have already spoken to P.C. Alan Naulls and he has also agreed to write. A 'Parish Link' article will ask residents who have concerns to also write and would suggest we could ask our local district and county councillors to add their voice,  on the basis that the squeaky wheel gets the oil.

If you would like to support our cause, please write and state your concerns and desires to
